Course Overview
If you love working outdoors and with animals. this course gives you an introduction to the real-world work environment, helping you gain an understanding of working life and your suitability for particular careers in the Land-based Industry. You will gain practical knowledge of what real work involves and some of the skills and knowledge that you need to become a successful employee in the workplace.
What will I learn?
You will: Gain work-related skills in classroom and real-work environments Develop enterprise and employability skills Prepare for further training in your chosen occupational area such as Animal Care, Agriculture, Horticulture and Countryside Management or supported employment. Obtain an insight into a real-work environment, allowing you to make informed career choices You will also study English and maths at a level that is right for you. We will agree which level is appropriate following an assessment, which you can either take at interview or when your course begins. The qualification will be GCSE or Functional Skills.
Entry Requirements
This course has no formal entry requirements, although we do need to see any qualifications you have achieved during your previous education. Our staff will meet with you to find out if this is the right course for you.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
Your studies and assessment will be within the framework of a flexible accredited Progression qualification Skills for Working in Animal Care/Horticulture at Entry Level 2 to Level 1 .

Relationships and behaviors
CV Writing
Garden Maintenance Skills
Exploring working in the Landbased Industry
Additional Costs and Information
Your course is likely to include trips to tourist attractions and community facilities which will require a contribution to the cost. In addition, some work experience options may need special safety equipment or uniforms. You can apply for financial help from the College, if this cost is going to be a challenge.
