Course Overview

STEP - Skills Training Employment Programme. The role of a Teaching Assistant gives you the skills and knowledge to help support teachers and learners in the classroom.

What will I learn?

You will gain knowledge of specific areas of learning that will help you understand the what is needed to become a successful Teaching Assistant. These topics of understanding are:

· Special Educational Needs.
· Prevent
· Behaviour Management.
· Supporting Maths an English (including phonics) in a teaching assistant role.
· Safeguarding

You will also cover employability skills which will get you ready for interviews and applying for TA positions. You will cover:

· Creating/updating your CV
· Appling for TA roles online
· Interview skills and techniques
· Planning and preparing for an interview
· Understanding recruitment processes in Education.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes will be undertaken regularly with you by the course tutor. There is no formal qualification or assessment.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements with this course however you will need to have a DBS check. Apple A Day will work with you to secure work placements or even a permanent/casual Teaching Assistant role. The cost of the DBS check is means tested and where appropriate the fee will be waived.

Additional Costs and Information

£150 (Free fundable course to those who meet the eligibility requirements).

Free fundable programme for aged 19+ who are in receipt of benefit or on a low wage income and must have lived in the EU for the last three years. You must currently reside in England. Should you need any additional information before applying please do contact us on busdev@wiltshire.ac.uk .

Course Dates & Times:

The Course is taught online with work placements within a school environment undertaken after the online sessions have taken place.

Induction: Monday 17th April 9:30-11
Tuesday-Thursday 9:30-16:00 for 4 consecutive weeks ending on Thursday 11th of May.
Exit Review: Friday 12th May 9:30-11
