Do you enjoy being outdoors and wish you could capture what you see in a beautiful piece of art? Are you fascinated by colour and paint but are unsure how to use them to capture the landscape? If so, this one-day workshop will give you lots of practical tips and an opportunity to learn and to share your work with like-minded people.

What will I learn?

The aim of the course is to provide you with the confidence and skills to successfully paint the landscape. On completion, you should be able to recognise the properties of acrylic paint, use a window (viewfinder) to create a successful composition, make a value sketch, use washes and experiment with a variety of brushes and techniques.

The following topics will be covered during the course: Acrylic Paints, Oils and Watercolours - the differences and properties of a range of painting mediums; The Importance of Composition - the key compositional elements in acrylic paintings; Observing, Recording, Sketching and Tracing - getting to know your subject matter and how to plan your painting; Priming, Washes, Colour Mixing, Painting Techniques - painting on the correct ground, how to use washes and mix colour, which brushes and techniques and why.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes, and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course lecturer. There are no final qualifications associated with this course.

There are no entry requirements associated with this course.

Additional Costs and Information

You will need a sketchbook, pencils, brushes (optional), acrylic paint (red, blue, yellow, white and black), a camera, suitable clothing and shoes (for Corsham Park weather permitting), a portable sketching stool and a packed lunch and small change for tea/coffee.

Please note that there is no parking at the Methuen Centre. The closest car park is in the High Street, adjacent to The Methuen Arms. There is a charge for parking.
