Course Overview
Delivered at our Trowbridge and Salisbury campuses, the Early Years Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) qualification is suitable for a level 3 practitioner in a private, voluntary or independent setting.All early years providers are required to have arrangements in place to identify and support children with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) and to promote equality of opportunity for children in their care.This is an important role to ensure the best possible educational outcomes are achieved for children with SEND.
What will I learn?
As part of this qualification, you will:
- Explore the roles and responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator in an early years setting.
- Understand the strategies and techniques for supporting children and their families.
- Increase knowledge of Special Educational Needs (SEN) codes of practice.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
You will produce a portfolio of evidence comprising of two units. This will be assessed by your tutor.
Unit 1: Roles and responsibilites of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator in the Early Years.
Unit 2: Strategies and techniques for supporting children and families.
At the end of this course, you will achieve a level 3 award for Special Educational Needs Coordinator in Early Years Settings.
Entry Requirements
This qualification is suitable for learners who envisage or currently have careers in such areas as healthcare, social work, nursing, counselling, early years and teaching.
Learners must be at least 16 years old and individual circumstances will be discussed at interview.
