Course Overview
This bespoke, individualised course prepares you for developing your own independent lifestyle. It gives you the practical skills for you to learn how to make healthy, positive choices and will help you develop the skills and confidence to live independently or semi-independently through outcomes identified on your EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan) if applicable.
What will I learn?
You will:
Gain independence skills in classroom and real or simulated environments
Develop personal and social skills
Prepare for further training in college or at other institutions whilst accessing practical lessons such as Animal Care, Horticulture, Agriculture and Landbased
Enhance your ability to make informed life choices
Entry Requirements
This course has no formal entry requirements, although most learners will have progressed internally from Life Skills and/or Life Skills Plus.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
We will individualise the program according to your needs. Areas of study may include:
- Independent Living Skills
- Personal Hygiene
- Health & Safety
- Accessing the Local Community
- Work Experience
You will also work towards English and maths at a level that is right for you. We will agree which level is appropriate following an assessment which you can either take at interview or when your course begins.
Additional Costs and Information
Your course is likely to include trips to attractions and community facilities which will require a contribution to the cost. You can apply for financial help from the College, if this cost is going to be a challenge.
