This qualification is suitable for experienced Managers, Deputy Managers and Assistant Managers working within the early years setting.The management pathway is geared towards senior practitioners who are looking to develop their career, but who wish to remain active practitioners within the management framework working in the following settings:Integrated children’s centres Crèche Approved home care Out of school settings Day nurseries Family centres Playgroups Childminders**Childminders are able to undertake this course providing they are currently employing at least one other member of staff.
What will I learn?
Mandatory units in the Management pathway (equal to 64 of the required 90 credits): All the units from the Advanced Practice pathway Lead and manage a team Develop professional supervision practice Candidates also have to make up the credit value by selecting between 4 and 9 units from a list of optional units which will be provided at the start of your course.
Candidates must be 18 years old at the start of the course and must hold a Level 3 qualification in childcare with at least 4 years experience in a childcare setting, 2 years at Senior or Management level. Before enrolment you will be expected to complete and pass an initial assessment.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
You will be assessed by an occupationally competent qualified assessor in the workplace every 4 to 5 weeks. There is a requirement of a minimum of 6 hours a week private study/research. There will be a combination of assessment methods for this qualification which meets the requirements of the competence units. Candidates will be assessed via direct observation by a qualified assessor and evidence from a witness testimony. You will be expected to complete work set by your assessor between visits as well as completing a number of assignments. The college offers either paper based or web based electronic portfolio assessment methods. The most suitable method for you can be discussed on induction. Compulsory taught workshops for funded learners will take place at one of our satellite college centres in Devizes.
Additional Costs and Information
This is a roll-on roll-off course, so provided you fit the required work based criteria and pass the initial assessment you can join the course at any time. The College offers either paper based or web based electronic portfolio assessment methods. The most suitable method for you can be discussed on induction. The Level 5 diploma is not approved for those who are under 18 years of age.
