Course Overview

Our Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance course is designed to provide you with comprehensive training to further develop skills needed for working in the performing and production arts sector. This is a professional practice qualification which will provide you with the knowledge, skills, understanding and practical experience to progress to higher education or employment in the creative industry. Our Performing Arts course at Trowbridge embraces aspects of acting, singing and dance as key disciplines, preparing you with the confidence and skills to take to higher education, employment and drama school. We have a state-of-the-art professional studio theatre, The Arc Theatre, as well as specialist dance and drama Studios. Students will also have the opportunity to work in Salisbury where they will be trained by professional artists within our partner organisation, Wiltshire Creative. Wiltshire Creative comprises the combined vision, creative energy and ambition of Salisbury Arts Centre, Salisbury Arts Festival and Salisbury Playhouse. Students spend time at the Salisbury Arts Centre and the Salisbury Playhouse with further sessions taking place in the well-equipped campus Performing Arts Studio. Teaching across the course is delivered by professional practitioners who currently work in theatre and have the latest mastery in techniques, required skills and contemporary context.

What will I learn?

This is a professional practice course designed to:

1) Offer you a variety of practical opportunities to further develop your performance skills.

2) Give you a greater confidence in preparing for auditions, developing a comprehensive portfolio and provide you with the resources to equip you for the next stage.

3) Provide you with an accurate experience of working within the professional industry.

You will learn advanced drama skills, movement and dance, vocal training for acting and singing and devising your own performance projects. You will be trained in the context of a theatre ensemble and have the opportunity to explore a number of different theatrical roles and responsibilities including production. You will regularly perform to a public audience in the Arc Theatre as part of the Level 4 ensemble adding to your work experience portfolio.

At Salisbury, you will further develop a variety of acting techniques as well as advanced training in voice, movement and character technique. Your performance projects will primarily be based in the Salberg studio where you will have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the knowledge and disciplines needed for working in a theatre. You will develop key required personal and social skills that will support your commitment, collaboration and contribution necessary for group projects. You will also acquire advanced training for auditions and interviews in preparation for your next stage.
