Course Overview

Take your career in farming to the next level with this higher apprenticeship. If you’re looking to work with livestock or in crop production in a supervisory role, this course is ideal for you. Whether you’re returning to the family farm after completing a full-time level 3 qualification, progressing from an advanced apprenticeship, looking to move into management or start your own business, you’ll tailor your learning to your needs and ambitions. The course places an emphasis on practical business skills together with management theory and understanding. And with Lackham’s 1600 acre estate and working farms as your classroom, workplace learning throughout your apprenticeship will be reinforced by academic and practical learning in an industry setting even when you are in College.

What will I learn?

Core units will prepare you to work in farming at a senior level, helping you transform your working skills and knowledge and develop professionally. You’ll learn to plan, manage and evaluate breeding programmes, and how to plan and manage the health and welfare of livestock. Optional units allow you to direct your learning: you could take units on managing your own professional development within an organisation and producing plans for your business. As such, your College learning will get you to reflect on your experience in the workplace, increasing your value as an employee and giving you the skills to evaluate your working environment throughout your career.
