If you’re looking to progress into the IT Sector, be able to apply your new knowledge and skills within practical and real-life industry situations, this is the course for you!This motivating and engaging programme covers a broad range of IT disciplines including IT systems, web and database development, social media, cyber security and incident management, programming, computer games development, creating system to manage information, IT Project Management and more.As the digital world rapidly advances and changes, this course will give you the skills needed to be ideally placed within that environment, or to go onto higher study. Either way, we’ll equip you with the digital toolkit that will support your progression.
What will I learn?
As organisations depend on the functions and services offered by computing devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, you’ll look at the characteristics of programming languages to meet clients’ needs, making use of programs within operating systems or application programs to help deliver products and services; from design to refine, to review! You’ll design, create and review a computer game to meet specific requirements, reflecting on the skills applied during the design and development process.
You’ll review IT system security and the vulnerabilities that open us up to attacks from cyber criminals, and the importance for organisations to have robust plans in place. You’ll gain a sound understanding of how to effectively select and use appropriate IT systems, reviewing relationships between hardware and software and the impact on users and the systems. We’ll get you examining and solving issues within management information systems that support organisations with their operational data from small in-house systems to large stock control systems.
- 4 GCSEs grade 9-4 or A*-C including English and Maths or equivalent (Or Merit or Distinction in a related subject at Level 2)

Study, Assessment and Qualifications
- BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Information Technology
- An Industry Placement is a fundamental part of this course. An Industry Placement gives you the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience for your future. You will be supported throughout your placement by our dedicated Work Placement Team
Additional Costs and Information
You will be expected to join in course trips to other organisations and exhibitions and this may involve some costs towards travel and entry fees.
This 2 year course consists of Year 1: the Foundation Diploma programme after which students will enrol onto Year 2 and complete a full BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma ensuring progression to University level courses, higher apprenticeships or employment.
Students who leave after successfully completing Year 1 with a BTEC Foundation Diploma (which is equivalent to 1½ A levels) can use this qualification to support progression into employment or further training.
