Course Overview


If you have achieved the intermediate apprenticeship in Plant and Construction Maintenance, this one-year programme is designed to be a follow-up qualification. You’ll build on your workplace learning, making full use of Lackham’s resources and expert lecturers to increase your skill-base and prepare you for your career. You could secure employment in Construction Civil Engineering, as a Plant Mechanic or Engineer. You could be working with excavators, earth overs, forklift trucks, telescopic handlers and dumper trucks, and at Lackham your classroom will be our extensive engineering workshops, with an industry-level range of equipment for you to work with. This is an ideal course if you like being hands-on with machines and engines, understanding them from the inside out and applying your knowledge in a diverse sector.

What will I learn?


As part of the advanced apprenticeship in Plant and Construction Maintenance you will study a variety of units building on your skills in the intermediate apprenticeship. These will cover removing, replacing, dismantling and assembling components, carrying out routine inspections on equipment, maintaining the work area, diagnosing faults, moving loads manually and with equipment, testing plant and equipment and producing or components. These units are designed to support and develop the skills you’ll be using regularly in the workplace, and give you the understanding of key elements of engineering to prepare you for a diverse range of industry roles.

Entry Requirements


A minimum entry Level 3 or 4 GCSE grades E including Maths and English (or equivalent).

Applicants are required to have achieved the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Plant and Construction Plant Maintenance.

All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths and English

Study, Assessment and Qualifications


The duration of this apprenticeship is 12 months depending on previous experience and job role.

To fulfil the knowledge element of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend college for 6 blocks of 2 weeks.

To assist you during your apprenticeship, you may be required to purchase some equipment and resources to support you during your course.
