Course Overview

With access to the best equine facilities in the area, links to local and national industry providers and blue-chip events such as the Badminton Horse Trials, an apprenticeship with us could transform your dream into your career. You’ll build on your skills and experience of working with horses, giving you the edge when looking for employment in the highly competitive equine industry. A dynamic and immersive way to learn, an apprenticeship could take you from the riding school to the competition yard, from the stud to the hunt, all in a week’s work. Your working life will be tailored to you depending on your business of choice, and will be regularly enriched by learning with our experienced lecturers.

What will I learn?

Core elements of the framework are competence and knowledge. These are comprised of a Level 3 Diploma in Work Based Horse Care & Management, and a Level 3 Award in Business Management for the Environment and Land Based Sector. You’ll build your confidence working around horses, and the experience you gain while in your workplace will be enriched by essential, detailed knowledge in areas that could include anatomy and physiology, stable yard and stud management, nutrition, animal behaviour and welfare, event management, competition grooming, tack and equipment. You’ll also build awareness of your employment rights and responsibilities, and develop learning and thinking skills, enabling you to transform industry experience into a fulfilling career.

Entry Requirements

Minimum Level 1 or GCSE grade D in Maths and English. All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths and English. Merit or Distinction in a related subject at Level 2.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

Competence and Knowledge Elements of the qualification will be assessed in the workplace and at College using evidence to build a portfolio.

If necessary, Functional Skills will generally be delivered at our Lackham, Salisbury or Trowbridge campus sites.

To assist you during your apprenticeship, you may be required to purchase some equipment and resources.
