The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hair and Make-up Artistry is aimed at those who are looking for an exciting career related to all aspects of the Hair and Make Up Artistry, e.g. Make Up Artist, Session Stylist or working within TV and film. This course provides you with a range of essential technical and practical skills and knowledge, which will include a key focus on how Hair and Make Up skills have developed over the different eras and within different cultures.
What will I learn?
This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the make-up industry. You will study the following mandatory content:
• Principles of working in the make-up industry
• Anatomy & physiology for make-up artists
• Research, develop and showcase make-up and hair artistry designs
• The art of applying makeup
• Hair artistry
• Creative make-up artistry.
To enrol on this course, you must have 4 GCSEs at Grade D (3) or above (or equivalent) including English and Maths or Successful completion of a relevant subject at Level 1.
Your application will need to be supported by a reference, good record of attendance and an interview.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:
One externally set, externally moderated practical assignment.
One externally set, externally marked theory exam.
A minimum of 3-hours a week home study is required.
30 hours of work experience.
You will be assessed working on models in the Aspire Academy of Hair & Beauty salons throughout the duration of the course.
Final qualification: Level 2 Technical Certificate in Make-up Artistry
This qualification will allow you to progress into employment in the make-up industry for example into a junior make-up artist role or onto the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Theatrical, Hair, Special Effects and Media Make Up Artistry where you can enhance the skills and knowledge that you have gained at Level 2 to progress into senior job roles and wider career choices.
Additional Costs and Information
A kit and uniform will be required (discussed at interview).
In cases of financial hardship funds may be available to help with the cost of this.
We also arrange educational activities and competitions as part of the course which may incur an additional cost.
