This Level 2 Technical Certificate in Barbering aims to provide you with a range of essential and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the barbering industry. The skills include carrying out services such as shampooing, conditioning, cutting men’s hair, cutting men’s facial hair, drying and finishing men’s hair and creating basic outlines in the hair.
What will I learn?
This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the barbering industry. You will study the following mandatory content:
• Principles of hairdressing and barbering services
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Cut hair using basic barbering techniques
• Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
• Dry and finish men’s hair
• Create basic outlines and detailing in hair
We will work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training.
This will include structured work-experience or work-placements within their business and classes, or lectures given by industry experts.
To enrol you must have 4 GCSEs at grade D (3) or above, including English and maths (or equivalent).
Your application will need to be supported by a reference, good record of attendance and an interview.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
To gain this qualification, you must successfully achieve the following assessments:
One externally set, externally moderated practical assignment.
One externally set, externally marked theory exam.
A minimum of 3-hours a week home study is required.
30 hours of work experience.
You will be assessed working on clients in the Aspire Academy of Hair & Beauty salons throughout the duration of the course.
Final Qualification: Level 2 Technical Certificate in Barbering
This qualification will allow you to progress into employment in the barbering industry, for example into junior barber roles. Alternatively, you could progress onto a Level 3 Technical Diploma in Barbering or a Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing.
Additional Costs and Information
A kit and uniform will be required (discussed at interview).
In cases of financial hardship funds may be available to help with the cost of this.
We also arrange educational activities and competitions as part of the course which may incur an additional cost.

This qualification will allow you to progress into employment in the barbering industry for example; junior barber roles or you could progress onto a Level 3 Technical Diploma in Barbering or a Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing.
