Course Overview

For anyone passionate about becoming a barber, the industry is continuing to grow and is one that’s always in demand! The Level 2 course provides students with the essential practical skills and knowledge needed to get their career off the ground or for further training. Essential skills include carrying out services such as shampooing, conditioning, cutting men’s hair and facial hair, drying and finishing men’s hair and creating basic outlines in the hair.

What will I learn?

This qualification covers all the core skills needed to progress onto further study or training or to enter the barbering industry. Students will have the opportunity to work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. This includes structured work-experience or work-placements and classes or lectures and demonstrations given by industry experts.

Entry Requirements

Students must have 4 GCSEs at grade D (3) or above, including English?and maths (or equivalent). Your application will need to be supported by a reference, good record of attendance and an interview.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

Students must successfully achieve:

- One externally set, externally moderated practical assignment

- One externally set, externally marked theory exam.

- A minimum of 3-hours a week home study is required.

- 30 hours of work experience.

Students will also be assessed working on clients in the Aspire Academy of Hair & Beauty salons throughout their course.

Additional Costs and Information

A kit and uniform will be required (discussed at interview). Funds may be available in cases of financial hardship. Educational activities and competitions are also organised as part of the course, and may incur an additional cost.
