Course Overview

The Football Development Scheme is a well-established and exciting programme that offers male and female players the opportunity to combine full-time academic study with football coaching in order to promote, development and progress for students both academically and in football. This course has been designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to enable you to move into the sports industry into areas such as health and fitness, sports and leisure, sports coaching and professional sport, or onto a related higher education course. Those interested in any aspect of sport performance would benefit from this course. Our practical lessons take place at a range of top facilities across the County including Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Melksham Town Football Club, Stanley Park Football Club, Springfield, Beversbrook Football Facility, Play Football Indoor Dome Swindon and CrossFit Civitas. Wiltshire College & University Centre have teamed up with a local football club to offer a unique opportunity for those that wish to specialise in football.

What will I learn?

Over this two-year course, you are required to study the following mandatory units which are fundamental to your programme of study:

• Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
• Physiology of Fitness
• Assessing Risk in Sport
• Fitness Training and Programming
• Sports Coaching
• Sports Development
• Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
• Practical Team Sports

The remaining optional units are classed as specialist units which relate to sports development, coaching and fitness. This allows you to develop knowledge and skills in a variety of interesting areas including physiology, anatomy and sports performance.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

Students are required to complete two controlled assessments.

Entry Requirements

• 4 GCSEs at grade 3/D, including English and maths (or equivalent).

Additional Costs and Information

A charge of approximately £300 will be required for off-site visits, equipment and kit if you are doing this course. Financial assistance may be available for those students that qualify. Students should contact Customer Services for further information and a bursary application form.
