Course Overview
One of the UK’s largest sectors, the construction industry is incredibly diverse. It’s not only made up of tradesmen building by hand: there is a wide range of large- and small-scale machinery, and workers are always needed to design, build and maintain this equipment. You could be working with excavators, earth overs, forklift trucks, telescopic handlers and dumper trucks, and at Lackham your classroom will be our extensive engineering workshops, with an industry-level range of equipment for you to work with. If you like being hands-on with machines and engines, understanding them from the inside out and applying your knowledge in a diverse sector, this apprenticeship will give you the experience and knowledge to prepare you for your career.
What will I learn?
You’ll acquire a diverse blend of skills, ensuring you are ready to work with land-based machinery in a wide range of contexts. You’ll learn how to remove, replace, dismantle and assemble components, carry out routine inspections, diagnose faults, test equipment, solder and weld, and produce components. Working safely is essential, so you’ll gain key skills in maintaining the work area and moving loads both manually and with machinery. The time you spend in the workplace will be underpinned by practical learning at our Lackham campus. You’ll be working with industry-level machinery in our extensive land-based engineering workshops, the ideal classroom for practical learning that will reinforce your workplace skills.
Entry Requirements
A minimum entry level 3 or 4 GCSE grades E including Maths and English (or equivalent).
All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths and English.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
This apprenticeship duration is 18 to 24 months depending on previous experience and job role.
To fulfil the knowledge element of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend college for 5 blocks of 2 weeks in your first year and 6 blocks of 2 weeks in your second year.
