Course Overview


The catering industry is big business, and there are roles at all levels for people wanting to develop their skills.Catering covers work in restaurants, hotels, cafés, gastropubs and even in businesses as a contract caterer.You could find yourself preparing food for celebrities and VIPs at top hotel and restaurants, or even working for top Michelin star chefs around the world. Who knows, you may even be able to run your own kitchen and work towards your own Michelin star eventually!

What will I learn?


Aimed at those working as a chef, kitchen assistant or cook, an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Catering will provide you with knowledge and skills to prepare, cook and serve nutritious meals in a hygienic environment, devise and follow recipes, complete kitchen documentation, maintain stock control and minimise kitchen waste.

Entry Requirements


Minimum Entry level 3 or GCSE grade E in Maths and English. All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths and English.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications


Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers, so they offer a structured programme that takes you through the skills you need to do a job well. Each apprenticeship involves a structured programme of training leading to a recognised qualification, and they are available at different levels, letting you choose the speed you wish to learn at.

Additional Costs and Information


An Intermediate Apprenticeship in Catering will usually last between 12 and 18 months depending on your previous experience and job role.

You will be required to attend college one day per week during term time as well as occasional workshops during half terms and holidays.

For a Catering Apprenticeship, you will be required to purchase and wear a uniform and have your own basic chef knife set. This will be discussed with you upon application.
