Course Overview


A highly diverse and rewarding sector, the children and young people’s workforce requires a varied skillset and industry experience. Make your goals of working with young people a reality with this qualification. As an apprenticeship, the course will be highly tailored to your own interests. Your experience and development in the workplace will be reinforced by practical and classroom learning in College, preparing you to work under supervision with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. You’ll be equipped to meet the challenges of various roles in a challenging sector. Several elements are needed for course completion, including a Level 2 Diploma in Early Years Practitioner, and a Level 2 Award Employment Responsibilities in Health, Social Care of Children and Young People.


What will I learn?


You'll learn about the crucial responsibilities of an Early Years Practitioner, and the importance of safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children. You’ll learn about the theory behind childcare, how and why certain characteristics develop and how to care for each child equally. The course will combine core and optional units, allowing you to tailor the qualification to suit your own goals. And as an apprentice, your exact role will depend on your employer and the age of the children you care for, giving you the freedom to make the course work for you.

Entry Requirements


Initial Assessments.

Level 1 in English, Maths and ICT – if a recognised qualification at Level 1 is not hold they are required to complete these prior to completion of the certificate.

Learners need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours in a setting to demonstrate appropriate competencies.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications


Apprentice will complete workplace observations, portfolio of evidence and written assignment

20% off-the-job training during the on-programme phase of their apprenticeship.

Completion of NCFE Level 2 Award Employment Responsibilities in Health, Social Care of Children and Young People

Additional Costs and Information


The duration of the course is a minimum of 12 months, with a maximum of 18 months.
