And underpinning the distance-learning is a practical four-hour session at our new animal centre, where you’ll learn from our expert lecturers and make full use of our industry-leading facilities. Whether you’re looking to add accreditation to an existing business, upskill staff or refresh your own CV, this course will give you crucial theoretical and hands-on experience. Study with us could lead to further learning, practical training for the animal care industry or directly into work in this diverse and fulfilling sector.
What will I learn?
You’ll learn key elements of a successful dog walking business. Theoretical units will cover the roles and responsibilities of a professional dog walker, and familiarise you with the relevant legislation and Codes of Practice necessary to operate correctly within the industry. Central to the qualification are units on walking and controlling a dog, underpinned by learning how to identify and treat different breeds and manage a range of behaviours. You’ll also be equipped to deal with any problems, injuries and emergencies that may arise while dog walking, ensuring you are ready for any situation and qualified to provide an excellent service to your clients.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications
Level 2 City & Guilds Certificate of Technical Competence in Dog Walking
Eight hours of online learning
Four hour practical session at Lackham
One-to-one practical assessment with oral questioning
Additional Costs and Information
There are no additional costs associated to this qualification as all learning resources (including dogs) will be provided to you by your tutor.You are expected to wear appropriate PPE when attending the practical session with includes; Work boots or wellingtons (trainers are not permitted) Polo shirt (shoulders must be covered) Rain coat/all-weather jacket Jeans or dark coloured work trousers (no torn jeans, leggings or fashion trousers) No body piercings and hair tied back
