Course Overview
This course gives you an introduction to the real-world work environment, helping you gain an understanding of working life and your suitability for particular careers. You will gain practical knowledge of what real work involves and some of the skills and knowledge that you need to become a successful employee in the workplace.
What will I learn?
You will:
Gain work-related and vocational skills in classroom and real-work or simulated environments
Develop personal, social and employability skills
Prepare for further training in Retail or your other chosen occupational area
Enhance your ability to make informed career choices
Entry Requirements
This course has no formal entry requirements, although we do need to see any qualifications you have achieved during your previous education. Our staff will meet with you to find out if this is the right course for you.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
Your studies and assessment will be within the framework of a flexible accredited Progression qualification at Entry 3 or Level 1. Although we will individualise the programme according to your needs, sample units may include:
College Induction
Young People, Law and Order
Developing Skills for a Healthy Lifestyle
Study Skills
Enterprise project
Subject-specific vocational skills
You will also study English and maths at a level that is right for you. We will agree which level is appropriate following an assessment, which you can either take at interview or when your course begins. The qualification will be GCSE or Functional Skills.
Additional Costs and Information
Your course is likely to include trips to tourist attractions and community facilities which will require a contribution to the cost.
In addition, some work experience options may need special safety equipment or uniforms. You can apply for financial help from the College, if this cost is going to be a challenge.
