Course Overview

This course prepares you for independence in learning, life and work, giving you the understanding and confidence, you will need to succeed in your chosen career. It gives?you the practical skills for you to thrive in a learning or work environment and will help you decide on the next stage of your career.

What will I learn?

Students will learn how to gain work-related and vocational skills in classroom and real-work or simulated environments, enhance personal, social and employability skills.

You will also learn how to operate independently and effectively in life, learning and work, prepare for further training in?your chosen area, overcome barriers to entering work and improve your English and maths skills.

Entry Requirements

This course has no formal entry requirements, although it is likely that you will already have achieved some qualifications at Entry 3 level or above. We will need to see any qualifications you have achieved during your previous education.

Our staff will meet with you to find out if this is the right course for you.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

Your studies and assessment?will be within the framework of a flexible accredited Progression qualification at Level 1. Although we will individualise the programme according to your needs, sample units may include: employment rights, contracts and pay, research project?and understanding welfare at work.

You will also study English and maths at a level?that is right?for you. We will agree which level is?appropriate following an assessment which you can either take at interview or when your course begins. The qualification will be GCSE or Functional Skills.

Additional Costs and Information

There is a residential trip as part of your course which costs around £250. This can be paid in instalments or you can apply for financial help from the College, if this cost is going to be a challenge. In addition, some work experience options may need special safety equipment or uniforms.
