Course Overview


If you are interested in learning basic skills in technology, programming, hardware, the internet and web design then this is the course for you.This course covers a range of IT topics in order to open doors to further study in Computing, Games Development and related areas.

What will I learn?


Four core units:


A1 Being Organised
A2 Developing a Personal Progression Plan
A3 Working with Others
A4 Researching a Topic


Six optional units


Developing Digital Information Using IT


You will design and present information for a specific audience using IT. You will explore
design elements and use different types of software to produce engaging information.


Using Digital Communication Technologies


You will develop their skills in using digital communication technologies, including email,
social media and audio-visual communications safely for a given purpose.


Solving Technical IT Problems


Working in our well-equipped labs you will solve technical IT problems using computer hardware and/or software


Creating a Spreadsheet to Solve Problems.


You will develop skills to create a spreadsheet that solves problems and displays numeric and
non-numeric information by applying suitable tools and techniques.


Creating a Website


You will create a simple website using graphical tools for a specific purpose.


Creating a Computer Program


You will create a simple computer program using graphical tools and will develop skills in
problem solving and self-management.

Entry Requirements


4 GCSEs at grade E or above, including Maths or English, or equivalent
A good reference
A satisfactory interview

Study, Assessment and Qualifications


All units are internally assessed by means of centre-devised assignments

Each unit has specified criteria to be used for grading. A summative unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit or distinction.

All assessment is subject to Internal Verification and External National Standards Sampling.

The final qualifications will be BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Information Technology.
