Learning at our Lackham campus, which specialises in land-based teaching, you will develop your independent learning, life and work skills, enabling you to thrive in a learning or work environment. The course will help you to decide on the next stage of your education or career.
What will I learn?
Your programme will be tailored to your individual needs, and may include topics such as:
• Building and maintaining workplace relationships
• Health and safety in the workplace
• Principles of animal care
• Assisting with the movement and handling of animals
You will also study English and maths at a level that is right for you following an assessment either at interview or at the start of the course.
You will enhance your personal, social and employability skills, and learn how to operate independently and effectively in life, learning and work.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
• No formal entry requirements.
• You are likely to have achieved some qualifications at Entry 3 level or above.
• Informal interview to check that this is the right course for you.
This course has no formal entry requirements, although it is likely that you will already have achieved some qualifications at Entry 3 level or above. We will need to see any qualifications you have achieved during your previous education. Our staff will meet with you to find out if this is the right course for you.
Additional Costs and Information
You will develop work-related and vocational skills through a combination of classroom lessons and practical activities in real-work or simulated environments. You will also work towards a GCSE or Functional Skills qualification in English and maths.
Your studies and assessment are accredited within the framework of the Skills in Working in Animal Care/Horticulture at Level 1 qualification.
What Could I Do Next?
Having successfully completed this course, you could progress onto a Level 2 course in Agriculture, Animal Care, Horse Care, Land and Wildlife, or Horticulture. With further training and experience you could work in a wide range of land-based industries such as animal care, agriculture, horticulture, horse care, agricultural engineering, floristry, countryside management and conservation.
