The construction industry is one of the largest in the UK, with roles constantly developing and changing. Working as a Construction Operative your role could include; laying kerb and path edgings. Fixing form work. Placing and finishing concrete-including; paths, foundations and oversites. Laying and fixing various types of new drainage systems and connecting into existing drainage systems.Often responsible for following complex plans from architects and civil engineers, you will work to detailed specifications to meet client requirements in a timely and efficient manner.This apprenticeship is aimed at someone working on a construction site, to given specifications, setting out basic structures, laying domestic drainage, placing and finishing concrete.

What will I learn?

This qualification supports the learner to attain enabling, fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge.

As an apprentice you will cover knowledge in three core subject areas:

- Health, safety and welfare
- Information, quantities and communication
- Understanding civil engineering technology

The Learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in:

- Establish work area protection and safety – general construction
- Lay domestic drainage
- Place and finish non-specialist concrete

The qualification requests the learner to demonstrate, in a real workplace environment, that you are competent against a set of performance statements. You are assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified assessor whose job is to work with you and help you through your programme of learning.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

An intermediate apprenticeship in Construction Operations can take up to 24 months to complete, depending on your previous experience and current job role.

You will need to attend college for two days per week in the first year and one day per week in the second year, as well as several NVQ portfolio days which will be timetabled at the start of your programme.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of GCSE grade E in English and Maths.
All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths and English.

To assist you during your apprenticeship, you may be required to purchase some equipment and resources to support you during your course.
