Course Overview

The construction industry is one of the largest and broadest to work in, employing around 7% of the UK's workforce, and there is always a demand for skilled professionals. An apprenticeship in construction is a form of vocational training where you will follow an NOCN approved standard to develop skills and knowledge and then demonstrate and evidence your application in a construction environment. Bricklayers need to have a good eye for detail, as well as strong maths skills.

What will I learn?

The Level 2 Bricklaying apprenticeship allows you to learn, practice and develop the skills required for employment or career progression in Bricklaying.

It will give you the theoretical knowledge you need to succeed in the industry, the practical skills to produce work to a high standard and an understanding of health and safety, materials and sustainability.

This apprenticeship will cover the knowledge and behaviors required in Bricklaying and the following practical areas:

• Preparation of Materials
• Safe Working
• Working Area
• Masonry Structures
• Radial and Battered Brickwork
• Feature and Reinforced Brickwork
• Other Types of Brickwork
• Building Technology

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

The duration of an Level 2 Bricklaying is 24 months and you will be required to attend college for 1 day per week during term. At the end of the 2 years you will be required to complete an end point assessment (EPA) which will test your knowledge and skills and will be assessed by an independent external assessor.

Entry Requirements

Minimum grade 3/D or Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths.
All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths, English.

Additional Costs and Information

The knowledge element is delivered at our Trowbridge, Chippenham and Salisbury campuses. The EPA will be delivered in College.

If required, Functional Skills will also be delivered as part of the apprenticeship program. A mixture of on and off the job training provides a variety of learning opportunities across the whole program.
