What will I learn?


After completing two years, students will gain a Higher National Diploma (HND) in General Engineering.

The core modules will typically include:

Research Project
Professional Engineering Management
Further Mathematics
Lean Manufacturing

Plus other optional modules to be confirmed in collaboration with industry.

Entry Requirements


Although Pearson do not specify formal entry requirements for students who have recently been in education, the entry profile is likely to include the following:

Two A Levels at grade C or above in relevant subjects such as Mathematics or Physics or a level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Engineering at grades MM or above.

Three GCSEs in English, Mathematics and Science at grade C (4) or equivalent.

Interviews are likely to include an initial assessment

The HND in General Engineering requires applicants to have already achieved a Higher National Certificate (HNC) with the appropriate modules.

Where English is not the applicant’s first language, applicants must demonstrate capability in England at a standard commensurate with IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 being awarded on individual sections).

Study, Assessment and Qualifications


Studied part-time over two years, this course is assessed through a mixture of continuous assessment methods using coursework assignments, exams and written assessments for some higher grades.

Practical sessions take place in modern purpose built labs with specialist equipment and software provided. You will have access to resources such as the College’s online learning environment, eStudy with free access to a wide range of eBooks.

An HND in General Engineering plus further learning such as work based learning meets the academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration.

On successful completion of this course, you will achieve an HND in General Engineering, awarded by Pearson.
