Functional Skills Maths is available to military personnel as a distance learning (home study) option and we are accepting applications for this throughout the year.We encourage you to apply on-line and register your interest in studying maths.Following receipt of your application, we will contact you to discuss the options available to you. With our distance learning course, you will work remotely and be supported by one of our Maths Lecturers. You will need to have access to your own computer and be expected to submit work regularly to your Lecturer.

What will I learn?

When you sign up to study maths, we will help you develop your core skills and knowledge in number calculations, money management, measurement, shape, space and handling data.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

We support students working towards an Entry Level 3, Level 1 or a Level 2 qualification.

During the course, assessments take place on a regular basis to develop and assess your skills and fully prepare you for the formal assessments needed to gain a qualification.

The Entry Level 3 Maths is formally assessed internally.
Level 1 and 2 maths is assessed with a formal exam, which includes a non-calculator and a calculator section. This exam is marked externally by the Awarding Body (Edexcel).

All levels have set and marked tests, which consist of scenario-based questions and take place under exam conditions at any time in the year.

Entry Requirements

As part of the interview process, all applicants will complete an initial assessment.

Using the results from this and through discussion with you, we will be able to advise you about the course and qualification that is most suitable for you.

Your individual programme of study will be tailored to your needs through regular progress monitoring and discussion with your Lecturer.

Additional Costs and Information

All of these courses are free of charge for applicants who do not have a Grade C or Grade 4 or above at GCSE.

You will need to have access to your own computer when working remotely.
