Course Overview

This course is designed for absolute beginners or for those who know only a few words of French. It provides the ideal introduction to conversational French, covering the basic situations you would encounter as a tourist. Whether you want to learn for fun, or if you intend to continue your study, this is the course for you!Principal activities will be based on listening and speaking but there will also be a few reading and writing activities.

What will I learn?

The aim of the course is to provide you with basic speaking and listening skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which will increase your confidence to ‘have a go’ when you are abroad.

The following topics will be covered during the course: Greeting and making introductions; Talking about yourself and family; Using numbers and understanding prices; Ordering food and drink; Shopping; Finding your way around; Visiting the pharmacy/doctor; Feel inspired to continue studying the French language and culture.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course lecturer.

You will be asked to buy a coursebook: your lecturer will recommend which one to purchase.

This course runs on one day per week at the Chippenham Campus and the dates are:
