Course Overview

If you have a passion for being outdoors and working with animals, this course will help you to make informed choices about your future career. Based at our Lackham campus for land-based study, the course is designed to prepare you for further training in areas such as animal care, agriculture, horticulture and countryside management. You will develop a range of skills, knowledge and understanding in land-based topics, spending time in our specialist facilities and learning from tutors with extensive industry experience.

What will I learn?

Your programme will be tailored to your individual needs, and will include units such as:

• Introduction to the land-based industry
• Health & safety in the workplace
• Feed young farm animals
• Assist with restraining a small animal

In addition to land-based topics, you’ll also study English and maths at a level that is right for you, which we will determine during an assessment at interview or when the course begins.

We will also help you to develop your personal, social and employability skills.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

You will learn through a combination of classroom lessons and activities in real-work or simulated environments. You will work towards a GCSE or Functional Skills qualification in English and maths.

Your studies and assessment are accredited within the framework of the Skills for Working in Animal Care/Horticulture at Entry 3 qualification.

Entry Requirements

• No formal entry requirements
• Informal interview to check that this is the right course for you

Additional Costs and Information

Your course is likely to include trips to tourist attractions and community facilities which will require you to contribute towards the cost.
