Course Overview
Engineering Operatives will work individually or as part of a team to carry out a range of engineering operations which could include ensuring machines and equipment used are maintained and serviceable, dealing with breakdowns, restoring components and systems to serviceable condition by repair and replacement; operating a variety of machines (CNC or Conventional); assembling and repairing machine and press tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and other tools; fabrication/installation and assembly of metal parts joining techniques; preparing materials and equipment for engineering processes, providing technical support including communications software, test tools, performance, capacity planning, and e-commerce technology as required. This Level 2 apprenticeship can be used as the foundation level of a Level 3 engineering apprenticeship and presents excellent progression opportunities for those seeking higher qualifications
What will I learn?
Depending on the chosen pathway and role in the company apprentices may follow one or more of the following pathways;
Machining
• Producing components using hand fitting techniques
• Preparing and using lathes for turning operations
• Preparing and using milling machines
Maintenance
• Producing components using hand fitting techniques
• Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
• Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
Electrical / Electronic
• Wiring and testing programmable controller based systems
• Assembling and testing electronic circuits
• Assembling, wiring and testing electrical panels/components mounted in enclosures
In addition to mandatory training including
• Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
• Working efficiently and effectively in advanced manufacturing and engineering
• Using and interpreting engineering data and documentation
• Conducting business improvement activities
Entry Requirements
Maths and English Language at Grade 3 or above
Apprentices are required to undertake a skills assessment as part of the application
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
• Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills)
• Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations (Knowledge)
