Course Overview
The course provides an in-depth introduction to the art of creative writing. Throughout the course, you will explore innovative and stimulating ways to produce fiction – from short stories for adults and children, to longer works of fiction exploring a variety of genres.
What will I learn?
On completion, you should be able to comprehend the basic elements of fiction writing and be able to write a well-planned story depicting strong characterisation, technique and style.

The possibilities available for fiction writers
The creative process – where to start
Idea generation
Finding your voice
Writers block
Writing short stories
An introduction to novel writing
Developing credible characters
Understanding dialogue
Create tension and drama
Understanding point of view
Developing plot and sub-plot
Descriptive writing
Writing short passages in a range of genres
Introducing show don’t tell
Using emotions and experiences to fuel the creative writing process
The self-editing process

Study, Assessment and Qualifications
Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course tutor.
