Course Overview

This course is suitable for those with a requirement to become competent in inspecting, testing and certifying electrical equipment. This one day course meets City & Guilds requirements to demonstrate competence in Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989).

What will I learn?

The statutory duties and requirements of the IEE Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment 4th Edition, which covers:

• Electrical based theory
• Testing of apparatus with approved Portable Appliance Testers (PAT)
• Documentation required by Electricity at Work Act

Entry Requirements

Prior electrical qualifications are not required for attendance on this course.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

You are required to complete 2 assessments:

• On-line, multiple choice with the use of the Code of Practice
• Practical assessment to demonstrate your skills and knowledge

The results for the on-line assessment will be available within 24 hours. The results of the practical assessment will be available after verification has taken place by an independent verifier, typically within 6 weeks of submission of papers.

Prior reading of "The IET Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (4th Edition)" is ESSENTIAL for your preparation and is required for use during the on-line exam. This is available through the IET, Tel: 01438 313311 and from leading bookshops. Please Quote ISBN 978-0-86341-833-4 when ordering.

Students are required to bring a Calculator which must have square and square root functions. The calculator on mobile phones is NOT acceptable as you will be required to use the calculator within the exam.
