Course Overview
City & Guilds welding courses are designed for a range of abilities: • Beginners who need basic welding training • Experienced welders who want to develop specialist skills.This welding Award is offered at multiple levels covering Manual Metal Arc (MMA), Metal Inert/Active Gas (MIG/MAG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Oxygen & Acetylene (O/A) processes.Level 2 welding courses are aimed at anyone already working in the industry who wants to develop their welding skills further and advance their career.
What will I learn?
Initial sessions will include knowledge of Health & Safety and safe working practices within the welding industry and then re-enforced throughout.
Knowledge of machine set up in MMA, MIG/MAG, TIG, Oxygen and Acetylene processes, welding parameters, safe handling and set up of gases, different consumables used within each process and their uses, general maintenance of equipment. (Each process will differentiate on set up, consumables and gases).
Knowledge of weld joints, positions set up, recognition of defects that can occur and how to rectify.
Each level of learning will offer the student an opportunity to master their welding skills in the following positions:
Level 2 – Horizontal/ vertical and V butt joints in the PB and PF positions
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
During each process the candidate will be required to produce five weld test pieces consisting of a mixture between PB and PF positions, these tests will be destructively tested by means of nick breaking and acid etching followed by a verbal question test at the end of the course on H&S and weld knowledge.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but an interview will be necessary to determine previous experience and knowledge to ensure the correct level of learning and progression is achieved.
Additional Costs and Information
This course will run from October to June with multiple start dates throughout the year.
Candidates can learn at their own pace with the option of progressing through the levels offered or multiple processes at the same level during the year.
Each award is a separate certification and the cost for each one will apply.
The cost for Level 2 is £650.00
