This online distance-learning course is tailored to work around your busy lifestyle and provides you with the flexibility to enroll anytime throughout the year. Supported by the Pet Industry Federation, the aim of this course is to standardise nutrition practices within the industry.This qualification provides you with the opportunity to learn about current and modern techniques, the practical feeding and nutritional requirements of animals. The qualification allows you to specialise in particular animal group in line with you area of work or interest. The animal groups include; • companion • exotics • equine.If you are looking for a career within the animal care industry, then this is qualification is aimed at you. Working with animals is extremely rewarding, but it can require long hours, with dedication and enthusiasm for the role. This qualification is suitable if you are 16 years old or over.
What will I learn?
You will gain the skills and knowledge that are important for working with animals, with particular emphasis on feeding and nutrition. There are many opportunities, such as working in an animal care environment (e.g. kennel, cattery) or in retail environment such as a pet shop or store. You could also progress to further learning and training in this area.
This qualification covers the knowledge and understanding that you will need to potentially progress to work in the animal care industry. Mandatory content covers:
• feeding requirements of animals at different life stages and for different purposes
• nutritional values and properties of different food types
• use of additional foodstuffs and supplements
• presenting food and the effect on food intake

Study, Assessment and Qualifications
To achieve this qualification, you will need to complete 10hrs online learning and attend a 4hr practical lesson within the animal centre at our Lackham land-based campus.
The assessment for this qualification will require you to achieve one to one practical assessment with oral questioning.
