If you have previously studied art to level or Foundation Art and Design level (or equivalent) and enjoy working with other people who love art, this exciting three-term course will enable you to continue your fine art practice. You will undertake a number of different projects designed to help you to develop greater independence in your work. As well as producing an individual portfolio, which may be based around themes from still life, the environment or from working with a life model, you will research historical and contemporary fine art theory and practice and participate in a number of specialist workshops on a range of topics such as drawing, painting and printmaking.
What will I learn?
The aim of the course is to enable you to maintain your advanced fine art practice and to develop it at an increasingly professional level.
On completion, you should be able to generate ideas independently demonstrate an ability to develop and extend your techniques in an increasingly sophisticated way critically evaluate your own work and that of others and present work to a professional standard.
During the course you will cover production of a self-initiated and negotiated portfolio of work investigating and researching relevant historical and contemporary Fine Art theory and practice. You will also cover developing ideas from still like and environmental themes drawing from the life model independent sketchbook building and specialist workshops/demonstrations.
You should arrange an informal discussion with the lecturer before you enrol to make sure that the course is suitable for you. If necessary, you will be invited to bring in a folder of work to show the tutor who will discuss your work and your needs with you.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course lecturer through personal and group tutorials to enable you to develop critical skills and assess your progress at a professional level. There are no formal final qualifications associated with this course.
Additional Costs and Information
In view of COVID-19 please could learners bring their own brushes, pencils etc to avoid sharing wherever possible.
You may wish to bring some small change for tea/coffee refreshments. Please note that there is no parking at the Methuen Centre. The closest car park is in the High Street, adjacent to The Methuen Arms. There is a charge for parking.
This course runs on one day per week at the Methuen Centre, Corsham and the dates are:
