As a Civil Engineer, your work will influence everyday life, creating spaces and structures for work learning, relaxation and living. You'll design, build and work on the large-scale infrastructures that make modern society possible, and our courses in Civil Engineering will equip you with the skills you need to enter this huge and varied industry.
We will develop and train the next generation of Wiltshire’s Civil Engineers, Site Managers and Quantity Surveyors by providing high-quality workplace visits with stimulating and challenging practical and theoretical workshops. You’ll learn building methods and construction technology, mathematics for civil engineers, planning and design processes, incorporating the environment into your work, and practical skills including safe working practices, managing excavation, plant and piling, laying domestic draining, levelling and setting out. You'll learn how to sustainably design, construct and build infrastructures, producing solutions to real, diverse problems in a safe and environmentally appropriate way. And with a qualification in Civil Engineering you'll be highly sought-after in the construction industry, where a large skills gap means you'll be highly employable and well paid.
I really enjoy the creativity and methodology behind the Civil Engineering course. The facilities at the campus provide a great insight into the resources we’ll be working with in the future.
Civil Engineering (Level 3)
Civil Engineering lets you combine creative and practical elements of thinking, which are both areas that I enjoy.
Level 3 Civil Engineering
Joel is one of the lecturing staff on the Civil Engineering course in Chippenham. He studied at Northumbria University, started his professional career in quantity surveying and went on to work with companies such as Balfour Beatty, Carillion and Lovell, spanning a vast industry knowledge from new build housing and hospitals here in the UK to 5 star luxury hotels in Dubai. Joel has also taught cost engineering at a university in Deyang, China. This led to his passion in education and drive for student achievement.
