National Apprenticeship Week 2023

We’re celebrating National Apprenticeship Week – 6 to 12 February 2023

At Wiltshire College & University Centre, we are shining a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy. We are celebrating our diverse apprenticeship offering, our apprentices and our amazing employer partners sharing their stories throughout the week.

This year’s theme of ‘Skills For Life’ and we are reflecting on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career. As well as helping businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with skills for the future.

Whether you are a student thinking about an apprenticeship, a parent thinking that an apprenticeship might be right for your child, an individual who wants a career change or an employer thinking about having apprentices join your team, we have a range of advisers available to answer your questions. Simply email apprenticeships@wiltshire.ac.uk or call 0845 345 2235.

What is an Apprenticeship

Apprenticeships are a great alternative to traditional learning. An apprenticeship is a job where you learn while gaining experience as well as getting paid. You are an employee who will benefit from having the right skills and knowledge needed for your chosen career.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AN APPRENTICESHIP?

  • Earn a wage while you are training
  • Learn job specific skills and gain practical experience
  • Developing professionally alongside experienced colleagues
  • Achieve nationally recognised qualifications
  • Support from a dedicated College assessor
  • Paid holiday
  • Progression onto higher level qualifications or university
  • Fast track into full-time employment

WHO CAN BE AN APPRENTICE?

Anyone can be an apprentice, no matter if you’re a school leaver starting your career, wanting a career change, or looking to upskill your existing experience of qualifications. To be eligible you need to meet the following enrolment criteria.

  • Aged 16 or over (there is no upper age limit)
  • Have been living in the UK for 3 years prior to enrolling
  • Not in full-time education

An apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals while simultaneously gaining nationally recognised qualifications. Afterwards, you can progress into work, a degree-level apprenticeship or onto university.

Our Activities

To mark National Apprenticeship Week, we have spoken to some of our apprentices and employer partners to share case studies and videos discussing their apprenticeship journeys which we will share on our social media throughout the week.

Do you have questions, want help applying for an apprenticeship or would like support in starting an application? Our Careers and Work Experience Teams will be on hand to support you from 11am until 1pm on Monday 6, Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 February in the Careers Hub on each campus.
