If you're creative and passionate about fashion and textiles, our courses will allow you to develop your skills, hone your own style and learn new techniques, giving you a solid foundation to start a career in the fashion industry or progress onto university.

Our dedicated classrooms are fully equipped with sewing machines, patterns and materials to provide you with the best tools for learning and beginning a demanding and passion-driven career within the fashion industry.

You’ll learn how to research and develop design ideas, cut commercial patterns and make your individual designs using industrial machines. You’ll learn about fabric and how to develop surface textile designs, as well as other techniques associated with textile design. You’ll learn how to draw a well-proportioned fashion figure, and to illustrate your design ideas as well as producing technical drawings of your designs using CAD (computer aided design). After completing the level 3 course, you’ll be able to progress onto our highly-regarded Art & Design Foundation course, which has seen our students go onto prestigious university including Reading and Central St. Martins, which taught the likes of Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney.

Imani Springer,
Technician,

Imani is the fashion and textiles technician in Salisbury. She graduated in 2017 with a BA in Fashion Design: her final major project was a celebration of diversity, creating a plus-size collection that celebrated the female form. She has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience working within the fashion industry, having completed various internships and working within various specialties including designing bridal couture alongside an award-winning designer, working as a freelance seamstress and as a production assistant. She is inspired by strong female icons as well as historical dress and is no stranger to a rhinestone or two when customising bespoke Swarovski embellished footwear and accessories!

Helen Chivers,
Lecturer,

Helen Chivers is a Specialist Lecturer in Fashion and Textiles and Course lead for Year 2, Level 3 Art and Design. She studied her degree in Fashion Design and Technology at Manchester Metropolitan University and a Post graduate Certificate in Education whilst working at Wiltshire College. Helen’s career started in Menswear, designing for high end brands, developing in to Ladieswear and Childrenswear for independent labels and high street stores. Her experience encompasses trend research through to the point of sale, designing fabrics, graphic logos and fashion collections, but also merchandising and styling with corporate buying teams. She has worked with international suppliers and travelled the globe in search of the latest trends in fabrics and silhouette. Helen has spent the last 20 years in Further Education, at Level 3 and Foundation Diploma, synthesising her commercial experience with Education, to inspire over twenty cohorts and encourage the next innovators in her field.
