Have you always wanted to work with children? Or perhaps you want to develop your skills as an early years practitioner and move into a management position. Our early years courses are taught by experienced professionals, giving you the skills and knowledge to thrive in this rewarding sector.

Whether you choose a full-time course or an apprenticeship, you'll be taught by subject specialists with years of working in the sector.

You'll learn how the early years workforce supports children to learn, play and develop, and an annual overseas trip will give you an insight into how the sector operates in different countries. You'll explore key developmental milestones and how you can encourage children to reach them, and practice designing and facilitating creative activities with children. You'll benefit from our close links with local employers to gain real experience on work placements, putting theory to practice and building your confidence along the way. Our courses run from level 1 through to a BSc top-up in Early Childhood Studies. Whatever level you're working at, you'll benefit from our expert lecturers, unique support systems and small study groups to reach your potential.

What our students say...
It’s not just sitting down and listening on this Degree: you are asked to take part in activities that the children will one day learn from, share your own practice and discuss what you have learnt.
Rebekah
Although I am only in my first year of the course, I feel I am already beginning to develop as an effective practitioner, particularly through the Reflective Practice module.

Meet your lecturer
Claire Albiston, Programme Lead for HE Early Years,

I have always been passionate about early years education, and have a wealth of experience in a variety of educative roles and settings as a primary school teacher, Assistant Headteacher, EYFS Coordinator, Deputy Nursery Manager and student mentor. I particularly enjoy sharing my knowledge and understanding with students, supporting them on their journey to become outstanding practitioners who are able to inspire young children and enable them to flourish in their development.
