Guidance for students with EHCP and key worker parents

All

The Government has issued clear guidance on the need for self-isolation, household isolation and social distancing.

This is why parents have been asked to keep their children at home wherever possible to limit the virus spreading.

The College is reviewing arrangements on how it can follow government guidance to open for students with an EHCP and vulnerable students. Until these arrangements are in place the College will remain closed. Please revisit the website to gain an update during this coming week.

All students with an EHCP are being contacted by College staff to discuss how they can access the support they need during this time.

This morning (Friday 20th March), the Government also announced the list of key workers whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response.

This includes those working in the health and social care sector, such as doctors, nurses, paramedics, social workers and care workers; those in education and childcare, key public services, local and national government or those involved in food production, processing, distribution and delivery, public safety, transport, utilities or financial services.

Many parents working in these sectors will be able to ensure their child is kept safely at home.

If it is possible for children to be at home, they should be. This is the safest place for them to be as they will distancing themselves from others which reduces the transmission of the virus. This is what the government has described as ‘social distancing’.

If a child needs specialist support, educational provision will be available. Parents should not rely for childcare upon those advised to be in the stringent social distancing category, such as grandparents or friends and family with underlying conditions.

Parents should do everything to make sure their children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue the spread of Coronavirus.

If, as a parent your work is critical, and your child is a College student who cannot stay at home, then please get in touch by emailing info@wiltshire.ac.uk
