My project is inspired by the concept of transformation within the mythical stories of King Arthur, and the legends and sorcery that surrounded him. In many of my outcomes I have referenced alchemical symbols and imagery to respond to my extensive research.
My etchings are illustrations of Merlin, the most notorious alchemist and pagan druid teacher to King Arthur, with a halo of the planets/metals symbols. These link to my alchemy transformation necklace (inspired by the process of transformation within ceramics).
The second etching depicts Joseph of Arimathea and a levitating Holy Grail, which symbolises and contains the elixir of life, one of the three outcomes of the alchemic process. Joseph of Arimathea is said to have brought the Holy Grail to England and hid it in a well, where he became the first founder of Glastonbury Abbey - King Arthur and Guinevere's alleged burial ground.
