Decay
Whilst decay can be a daily reminder of our own mortality, if you look a little deeper, it can also be a promise for new life. I find this mirrors how even when objects or beings are “past their best,” that they still are still beautiful. I also find the whole cyclical nature of decay fascinating as well as the fact that decay is a necessity for humanity’s survival. The initial photography I’ve taken for this project allowed me to document different textures and states of decay. I explored methods of capturing decay in my artwork, like with artists such as Daniel Green who creates intricated oil paintings. I went for a much more painterly and almost impressionist or abstract approach with the painting of the background, I feel like the emotional and artistic quality embraced this style.
