Fragments
My theme was transformation, and through this I explored chronic illness. I wanted to highlight the results of primary research I did surrounding people’s identities transforming due to chronic illness. I felt this mirrored my own experience, but also reflected the thoughts and feelings of the wider chronically ill community. ‘Fragments’ is in direct response to this research, portraying both the grief and negative parts, the harsh changes that arise whilst becoming sick, but also the positive feelings such as self acceptance, and a desire for society to change to fit you better, rather than you having to change to fit the world. The two people collaged together represent both of these contradictory fragmented parts of people’s identities after their lives, and they themselves, have been transformed by chronic illness.
