Business students at Wiltshire College & University Centre have benefited from expert advice at two informative seminars, which included via the College’s partnership with Oxford Brookes University.

A talk from Oxford Brookes lecturer Richard Mohun on Thursday formed part of a ‘Stepping Up’ workshop for students studying the Foundation Degree Business and Management Practice course at the College, the second such session to take place at the Chippenham campus in as many weeks.

Although the course is taught at the College, students are able to access many of the learning and support facilities at Oxford Brookes University.

Richard was impressed by the interactions he had with the students and praised their commitment to combining studies with work.

He said: “It was a really interesting session and there is a great cohort of students at the College. They have a wide range of employment skills from working in different types of organisations and it is really admirable that they are studying a course while working.

“An apprenticeship degree programme like this is really good and there are many advantages of studying and learning about business and management while you are also working. You can relate what you are studying straight away when you go into your organisation and apply what you have learned into your work.”

Course Lecturer Dr Will Stallard said: “We are very pleased that Oxford Brookes have taken the trouble to visit us, and work with us, to prepare our learners for the next part of what is a very demanding course in what were interesting and challenging workshops.

“The workshops were aimed at getting our learners to think about the next year of their course, and about their concerns and expectations in anticipation of the work they have to do and the units they will study. Feedback from the groups was very positive and they have left with plenty of reading and thinking to do over the summer.”
