Salisbury student born prematurely celebrates 18th birthday!

Chloe Evens spent the first three-and-a-half months of her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Salisbury District Hospital and her parents did not know if she would survive.

However, thanks to the care of NHS doctors and nurses, Chloe showed just what a fighter she was and was allowed home, not needing oxygen, as initially expected. Since then, Chloe has continued to go from strength to strength and thankfully didn’t suffer any long-term health problems.

Due to the lockdown, Chloe, a Level 3 Travel & Tourism student at the Salisbury campus, wasn’t able to go out and celebrate her birthday quite as she had planned, but she said that didn’t stop it from being special.

“I had a lovely day; my parents put together video messages from my family and friends, we went for a walk, had a takeaway and a few drinks,” she said.

To mark her 18th birthday, Chloe will be doing a sponsored skydive in June, raising money for the Stars Appeal, with any funds going towards neonatal equipment at the unit where she was cared for back in 2003.
