Wiltshire College’s agriculture team from Lackham are over the MOOn after their Limousin cattle won rosettes in a variety of categories at the Bath and West Show.
Chris Taylor and Level 3 students Hannah Bennett and Lily Vanpuyenbroek were thrilled to be showing Limousin heifers Lackham Lunique, Lackham Melrose and Lackham Mayflower at the popular annual event in Shepton Mallett after a gap of several years and even more delighted to win first and second in the junior heifer class and champion continental heifer.
Hannah and Lily had never shown cattle before the show, and Hannah triumphed winning third place in the Senior Cattle Handlers class.
The 21-year-old from Chippenham said: “I had never shown cattle before the Bath & West Show and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
“I was also pleasantly surprised to have been so successful and am really proud of our cattle.”
Chris Taylor, Deputy Head of Department for Agriculture, said: “Prior to being judged at the show, the students were learning and practicing skills in halter breaking, leading, feeding, foot trimming, grooming, washing and clipping, which was great experience for them and at the show they were looking after the cattle and feeding them.
“It was lovely to get such praise from the Bath and West show who sung our praises over the loud speakers and I am fantastically proud of Hannah and Lily and the cattle involved and delighted that we were able to be involved in such a big event.”
