Hairdressing students Jessica Brimble and Michelle Palmer joined 22 other competitors from across the South West at the College’s Chippenham campus for the second stage regional heat of the World Skills UK Hairdressing Competition.
The competition, held on Thursday 6th July, involved three practical tests totalling five hours throughout the day, including long hair fashion style, men’s short commercial barbering cut and style with short taper, and a ladies commercial, fashionable cut and colour incorporating two wishes, which were announced on the day.
Their tutor Natalie Stephens said: “Both the girls performed to a high standard on the day, working professionally and representing Wiltshire College to a high standard.
“It has been an absolute pleasure spending time coaching and training the girls as they have given full dedication and enthusiasm at every step of the journey.
“They have really benefitted from the experience, developing both skills and confidence that they will use within their hairdressing and barbering careers moving forward.”
Michelle and Jess started training with Natalie in January, working towards entering Stage 1 of the competition – a photographic entry, and they were delighted when they found out at the end of May, that they had made it through to the regional finals.
Michelle said: “It has been a great experience and it’s something that I’ve always wanted to take part in. My skills have developed a lot, particularly within colouring.”
Jessica added: “My confidence has really developed through the training and taking part in the competitions, and I’ve really enjoyed the support and extra training.”
