Wiltshire College hosts county's largest HE Convention

More than 1,000 Wiltshire College and sixth form students from local schools enjoyed a UCAS style Higher Education Convention taking place in the heart of county.

Wiltshire College hosted its annual HE Convention at the Trowbridge campus on Tuesday 25th April, which provided learners with the opportunity to find out more about the options available to them after completing their Level 3 courses or A-levels.

In addition to more than 40 universities attending including Falmouth, Plymouth, Kent, Nottingham, Loughborough and Aberystwyth and six from the Russell Group, Wiltshire College staff were also on hand to talk about the university level courses offered at each of its campuses.

The Army, Royal Navy, Marines and RAF graduate entry teams offered advice to many students on career opportunities within the forces and officer recruitment, experts on volunteering and gap years explained the benefits of spending a ‘Year in Industry’ and local employers and organisations offered alternative progression via Higher Apprenticeships.

Linda Westmore, Head of Students Services, said: “We were really pleased at how the event went and had lots of positive feedback from teachers and students attending and also those exhibiting.

“All our own students who are on Level 3 courses also attended the event.”

In addition to the main exhibition, all students attended talks by university experts who gave valuable tips on writing personal statements, the importance of choosing the right subject to study and funding.
