College chooses new Equestrian provider

Equine students are benefitting from some of the best equestrian facilities in the area after a new provider was chosen by Wiltshire College & University Centre.

Rein & Shine Equestrian Centre, based at Braydon, near Malmesbury, is certified by the British Horse Society and runs livery stables, a competition centre, riding school education and riding course and a Hoof Club.

The College is using the Centre to deliver the practical elements of the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Horse Care whilst Level 3 students studying Horse Management are at Stonar School, near Atworth.

Venetia Summers, Head of Land Based at Lackham, said: “The aim of involving local industry provides learners with a better ‘line of sight’ to work, raises the credibility of the qualifications and improves the collaboration between education and employers.

“Technical qualifications are rigorous and recognised by employers.

“We have high expectations of students, who benefit from teachers with strong technical knowledge and vocational expertise.

“Over the past two years students on the Level 2 and 3 Advanced Extended Diploma in Horse Management have achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.”

Equine courses at the College have established effective links with a significant number of professional local and national equine industry providers, resulting in an innovative practical experience being offered to students as part of their timetabled hours.

Students also have the chance to be involved and support high profile events with West Wilts Equestrian Centre, Badminton Horse Trials, Olympia, Hartpury Dressage Championships which offer real work life opportunities.
