Stalwart cleaner retires after 18 years

After 18 years, a stalwart cleaner is enjoying taking life a little easier after retiring from Wiltshire College.
Maureen Lockwood was surrounded by colleagues from the Trowbridge campus and fellow staff from Churchill Cleaning Services at the end of her last shift on Friday 10th November, when she was presented with a farewell cake and gifts.
Starting in 2000, when cleaning staff were employed by the College, Maureen has many fond memories over the years working tirelessly on the first floor of the campus ensuring catering students and staff had a pristine area to work in.
Maureen loved her music and had the radio playing every day to accompany her while working!
However, in September this year, the top floor of the Ashton building fell quiet – Maureen succumbed to her arthritis and after 18 years needed to change areas, which was an upsetting time for her.
In her last few months in Trowbridge, she enjoyed working alongside Hilary on the ground floor but made the tough decision to retire and make the most of her spare time.
Maureen said: “I can’t believe how generous everyone has been with their leaving gifts – it’s amazing.
“I have enjoyed every minute of working here and am really sad to be leaving, but also looking forward to relaxing a bit more.”
Lisa Caine is Churhill’s supervisor for Trowbridge. She said: “Maureen was a dedicated, loyal and motivated employee and we will all miss her daily input into the team and I personally will truly miss her.”
