Wiltshire College unveils proposed plans for Salisbury Campus

Plans for a state of the art makeover of Wiltshire College’s Salisbury campus are going on show at a public exhibition.

Earlier this year the College was awarded government Local Growth Fund money via the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP) to invest in its campuses, and on Monday 27th November a public exhibition will be held to showcase plans to upgrade the Salisbury campus.

Amanda Burnside, Principal and Chief Executive of Wiltshire College, said: “The Salisbury campus is long overdue for redevelopment.

“There has been no major investment in the Salisbury estate for over 20 years and the time is right for a transformation on the campus.

“A large proportion of the current buildings date back to the 1950s/60s and they’re no longer suitable for modern teaching and learning needs.

“The Local Growth Fund has provided the opportunity for us to make plans to update the campus.

“Our campus requires re-configuring to provide a more efficient use of the space available and deliver a better provision of teaching and facilities with opportunities for additional higher level courses, to the benefit of the Wiltshire population.

“We look forward to meeting with the local community and hearing their views on our proposals to improve the Salisbury campus.”

The plans show a brand new building designed to create a modern teaching facility and a re-developed campus layout.

Existing buildings will be condensed to accommodate new engineering facilities, while the layout and appearance of the buildings will be improved.

Public spaces and landscaping will also be enhanced to achieve a much improved look and feel to the campus.

In addition, the College was also awarded government Local Growth Fund money to improve and develop its Lackham campus.

Details of the proposals will go on display at a drop-in event being held on the Salisbury Campus, in Southampton Road, on Monday 27th November from 3-7.30pm.

Members of the public, local residents, businesses and anyone with an interest in the scheme are encouraged to attend the public exhibition to learn more about the proposals, to talk to the development team and to contribute to the public consultation which is taking place ahead of a planning application being submitted to Wiltshire Council in the New Year.
